January Wrap Up
Heya Bookgeeks,
Can you believe January is over already? I know a lot of people feel like it dragged but for me it feels like the month has gone so quick. I've nearly finished my third week back at uni which believe it or not is insane.
But with January done I can now announce I read a total of five, yes five(!!), books this month. A massive achievement for me, if I do say so myself. After last year I never thought I'd be in a positive enough mental state to read for myself again and look where we are now. Reading for uni and myself? Madness!
Anyway, I wanted to do a quick wrap up with my overall book ratings. You can find all my proper mini reviews in the highlights of my bookstagram (@onceuponabookgeek).
#1: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Total Rating: 4.5 stars
To kick off my year I idly picked up this beauty of a book with bad expectations, thanks to a few people who told me not to bother with it, but boy were they wrong! I absolutely loved this book and I am eternally grateful to it for making me fall back in love with reading again.
#2: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Total Rating: 5+ stars
There are not enough stars in the world that I can give this book. Everything about it was so beautifully crafted and all the character developments and world building... just read it, you'll understand!
#3: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Total Rating: 5 stars
Big shock! Another Leigh Bardugo book! After reading the first book in the six of crows duology, obviously I had to read the second. I couldn't handle the cliffhanger after the end of the first book and now I'm (still) suffering from a book hangover. I don't think I'll ever find a series that blew me away as much as these two did. But fingers crossed as Leigh did hint at a possible third book in the future.
#4: Everless by Sarah Holland
Total Rating: 2 stars
Honestly, I think I'm being generous with the two stars but I do know a lot of people who love this novel. If you're one of them I'm really sorry but this book just wasn't for me. I felt the characters were flat and the world building wasn't all I expected after reading the premise for the book. Plus the romance elements were more like a thirteen year old's diary rather than a maturing relationship. Again, sorry if this rating upsets anyone but it just wasn't worthy in my opinion.
#5: The Wicked King by Holly Black
Total Rating: 3.75 stars
This one is so close to four stars to me but something is just slightly off with the novel that isn't pulling me in quite as much as the cruel prince did. But then again, I'm 40 pages away from finishing so maybe my opinion might change by then? Overall, it's a great sequel and I can't wait for the last book in the series to come out next year *Cries*
I'm super excited to continue reading and I hope you guys will follow along with me! Let me know your thoughts, do you agree with my ratings?
